Summer 2008 Information

The Team Registration meeting for the Summer '08 CVSA season will be held Monday, May 12, 2008, 6:00 PM, at Bryan Park Shelter #3

We are looking for team registrations only at the meeting. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and teams will only be considered registered once a completed Summer Team Registration Form and the full $325 team deposit have both been received by the league. For further details, contact CVSA Registrar Brian Bartlett.

Team Captains should be aware of the following policy highlights:

Divisions will be capped at 10-11 teams each and we will not accept any teams with less than a $325 deposit.

Teams trying to register after the team registration meeting will likely be wait-listed and depending on availability, may be turned away. Ensure your team's place by submitting your team form and your full deposit before the deadline.

$325 is due at Registration, another $325 is due 2 weeks into the season and the remainder of your team's balance is due July 18.

All outdated Player Passes (those still showing a Social Security Number) MUST be replaced.

Article I.D.8 of the Bylaws of the Central Virginia Soccer Association states:

D. Duties of Team Officers

Furthermore, the CVSA Board, acting on the authority granted under Article XII.A.1 of the Constitution of the Central Virginia Soccer Association has ruled that each player participating on teams that dissolved while owing the CVSA money is assesed a per capita share of that team's balance, unless they could produce a receipt (canceled check, etc.) proving payment.

Some have commented that this system is unfair and penalizes players that have paid their dues in full. However, please consider that the CVSA Board looks at each team as a group. In recent seasons, there have been between 50 and 60 teams in the CVSA in any one season. With all of its other responsibilites, dealing with 50 team captains is a full load for the CVSA Board. Micromanaging approximately 20 players per team for those 50 teams is impossible - that would come to almost 100 players per CVSA Board Member! In sum, the CVSA Board deals directly with the team captains, and the team captains are expected to deal with their players.

At registration time, the CVSA Board has never asked team captains to break down their deposits in regard to whom they are credited on an individual basis (one reason is because in many cases the deposits are coming from their personal bank accounts). If individual accounts were to be kept, then the CVSA Treasurer would be required to maintain close to 1,000 files. As reasonable folks, we can all agree that is too much to ask for one volunteer. As a player, if you want to make sure your payment is credited correctly, make the check out to C. V. S. A., or use the PayPal� at the CVSA Payment Center page of the CVSA website. And as well, take some responsibility for your team and make sure your teammates pay their seasonal dues. We are all working toward the same goals - improved facilities, better competition, and an enhanced recreational experience overall. Eleven volunteers on the CVSA Board can't make it all happen by themsleves.

If you are a player who has been wronged by the possible actions of a former team captain, you are encouraged to use the CVSA Archives, as each season's team captains are listed there. The CVSA isn't trying to single anyone out, just trying to collect back dues. Since the teams and team captains were unable to collectively get matters settled, the CVSA is left with no other recourse then to get matters straight after the debt is in default.
